Most parents with kids of school-going age relate to this topic. You’ve probably pulled a few hairs off your head or added a few grey ones from the virtual classes and yes-teachers do need that pay rise!

Anyway, I will not go tumbling down that rabbit hole. Some of us have accepted that we are increasingly taking on more teaching roles, including opting to home-school our children as a new normal.

Just like you, we struggled to find suitable homeschooling online learning resources suitable for our 4 and 6-year-old children. We came across some good recommendations mostly from fellow parents that suited our children homeschooling needs. We share a list with you below with the hope that it helps your homeschooling quest! We do hope you find the information useful.

1. Read Along by Google

This android application, available on Google play store once installed is super easy and fun to use. It will help your kids independently develops their reading and spelling skills plus you will be able to track their progress.

Curriculum: English language, phonics and spelling.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 5+ years.

We liked it because it uses awesome speech recognition, helping your children learn reading by giving verbal and visual feedback as they read stories out loud.

2. Oxford Owl

This free eBook library has loads of high-quality titles for your children!

Curriculum: Mathematics and English.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 3 to 11+ years.

We liked it because dedicated support page for parents plus tonnes of kid activities to keep them engaged while learning.

3. Khan Academy

Known and trusted by many parents given its mission to provide free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.

Curriculum: General education.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 2 to 18 years.

We liked it because of its high quality, easy to use and self-paced learning materials. As a parent, you also have access to support material and can monitor your child’s progress.

4. Maths-Whizz

Popular with many schools and parents for its evaluation and self-paced math practice. This online tutor is a valuable resource if your kids need some extra math practice.

Curriculum: Mathematics.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 5 to 14 years.

We liked it because Math-Whizz customizes instructions to fit your child’s numeracy level after completion of a placement assessment test. The animated lessons afterwards increase in complexity as your child performance improves.

5. BBC Bitesize

One of the most widely used resources by parents globally.

Curriculum: General education.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 3 to 18 years.

We liked it because the lessons are animated and engaging including loads of quizzes and home learning materials for practice.

6. Nessy

Great for children who prefer visual and hands-on learning.

Curriculum: English language, phonics, spelling, reading and writing.

Age: has educational material relevant for children aged 6 to 11 years.

We liked it because the materials are awesome for multisensory learning, excellent for children with dyslexia. It has loads of support material, plus parents can track their children’s progress.
